“Lucky Streak”, the first CD released by Ron and Minnie with the Lucky
Streak Band, has fifteen songs which represent the range and versatility
of this band. Beginning with John Denver’s “Leaving on A Jet Plane” and
ending with Lesley Riddle’s “Step by Step”, strong vocal performances by
Ron and Minnie Powell come through on every track.
Their haunting duet
rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Flesh and Blood” is as current today as when
Cash recorded it more than fifty years ago. Three original tunes written
by Ron powerfully fill in the gaps between Doc Watson’s “Deep River
Blues”; Patsy Cline’s “Crazy”, and a toe-tapping version of Merle Travis’
“Nine Pound Hammer”. Their arrangements of Alison Krauss’ “Lucky One” and
Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel” prove their ability to tap into the
contemporary folk and country market.
This amazingly varied repertoire
covers a multi-generational span of folk and classic country and is
guaranteed to strike the fancy of just about everyone.
